Unfortunately the scope of 2008 US presidential debate is constantly being narrowed by a two-party system that increasingly looks like an undifferentiated corporate clusterf_ck.  The two dominant political parties (republicans and democrats) no longer have the kind of integrity or principals that stand the test of time.  It's pretty easy to find quotes of political leaders saying one thing and later claiming the exact opposite (otherwise known as "flip-flopping" in political parlance).  See my lying politicians page.

These days it is almost expected for politicians to say one thing (to get votes) and then do another (to get campaign contributions).  Politicians seem more interested in saying whatever voters "want" to hear and then doing whatever their "constituents" (read corporations; NOT the American people) ask after they are elected... even if the two ideas are complete opposites.  Sadly, the "American people" seem more interested in Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton than in changing the direction of the country.

To me, as an independent, the most interesting (and seemingly principled) candidates in the 2008 presidential election are Ron Paul (R Texas) and Dennis Kucinich (D Ohio).  There has been some buzz on the Internet about these two crossing political boundries and creating a game changing, non-partisan, non-corporate presidential ticket.

Sound too good to be true?  Well, that is up to you.  If enough people mobilize around their message of keeping America great by changing the direction of the country before it's too late, something unprecendented could actually happen.

Unfortunately, big corporate interest are not too keen on letting this happen, and are doing anything they can to stop their message from getting out.  Both Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich were recently excluded from key presidential debates (Ron Paul from the Fox News debate and Dennis Kucinich from the ABC News debate).

Maybe one could understand Kucinich being excluded since he has not garnered ground shaking support.  However Ron Paul has raised more money (mostly from "little" people) than any other republican presidential candidate in the last 3 months of 2007, has more active military personel donating to his campaign than any other candidate, and actually beat Rudy Guliani in the Iowa primary by getting 10% of the votes.  It is a travesty that Fox News (supposedly a Republican political spin machine) has excluded him.

Here are some great videos of the candidates being interviewed by Bill Moyers on PBS:

It is sad and disturbing that the media decided for us who the top presidential candidates are even before the debates began. The whole system makes me very angry and I want it to change! I trust that Kucinich & Paul will do what they feel is right & not give in to political corruption & this is based on their track record.

Paul has some good ideas, but he also has a few positions that are just untenable. Dennis Kucinich, on the other hand, is the candidate I always dreamed of being able to vote for. ABC's fascism in trying to influence the election by keeping Dennis out just confirms for me that he's the one we should all vote for. If they're that afraid of him, he's got to be doing something right.

Kucinich is my first choice and Paul is my second. Ron Paul has more active support and his supporters are far far more aggressive and passionate. I really wish the Kucinich supporters shared this but I just don't see it. I think the majority of Democratic voters would vote for Kucinich if they felt he had a chance to win but unfortunately people are still trying to game the system that exploits this reality. The establishment counts on most people (Republican and Democrat) voting in defense ("lesser of two evils") rather than offense (voting their conscience). We need to counter this. Despite all the support RP has I don't think he can win and DK has an even less a chance BUT if they were to settle differences and combine forces I think they stand a very good chance of winning because there would be a massive surge of support of Democratic voters for Kucinich that currently does not exist. -Jason Bosch www.argusfest.org

KUCINICH/PAUL/NADER/GRAVEL '08 FREEDOM!!!! All of us have to work together, no more "Kucinich vs. Paul" stuff... UNITE!!! Neither is going to win their party's nomination (by all means still vote for Dennis if you lean towards dem and Ron if you lean towards rep), it will ultimately take all of us to come together to get behind a freedom ticket. This is the only way we will take down the corporate hold on Washington and on the people's well-being. We will work out the domestic issues with thought, discussion, creativity - a small price to pay for THE PEOPLE'S reclamation of the white house. Dennis and Ron are smart men, lock them in a room and they will figure out a way to satisfy both sides with regards to domestic issues.

I would hope that Kucinich would NEVER run with a man who calls African Americans "animals." Check out this link on the New Republic website and read excepts from his newsletters.84ca If Kucinich agreed to run with Paul, then I would hope they both go to political obscurity.

Click Here to see Ron Paul's response to the New Republic story. In short Ron Pauls said, "The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thought."

Personally, I agree with and am dedicated Libertarian principles. That would make it hard for me support anyone who endorses policies contrary to those principles. However, I am also a Constitutionalist, and believe that first we must return to a government whose power is limited to those defined and specified in that document. A key part of establishing a true constitutional government is to elect persons of integrity and honesty. Honest persons can disagree. Honest persons can negotiate, find common ground, and work together in a spirit of compromise. Sometimes they can find solutions and policies both sides can support. While I doubt these two men could share a ticket, I believe they could work together in a spirit of honesty and trust, for the good of the nation. One thing all Americans should consider during this election cycle; sometimes it is better to elect the person who does not desire power, but wishes to simply serve his nation and its citizens.

In response to Paul's statement about the New Republic: these newsletters were written under his name. If they were not written by him, they were written by his supporters and passed off as his statements. Paul did have full knowledge of the newsletters. His acceptance of financial support from white supremacists is public information. His disdain for the "wefare state" and welfare recipients is laced with racial stereotypes and connotations. The racist side of libertarianism is obvious: the government should not aid or offer special protections for vulnerable, historically persecuted Americans because an invisible hand will make everything right. This logic is historically flawed as well as selfish and racist. Paul may not speak in racist terms, but his political platform speaks volumes to his views of the disenfranchised poor.

Ron Paul is a down home type people's person, and would probably do very well in a position other than representing the people of the USA, as a leader. He rambles and drones.

Dennis for Prez. with Paulson as Vice or Secretary... Get people used to Libertarian and Green parties at the same time, while doing a hell of a job.
