This is an excerpt from the January 7, 2008 airing of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In the excerpt Jay interviews Ron Paul about his views. Jay Leno also expresses his disappointment with Fox for excluding Ron Paul from the New Hampshire primary debate broadcast and sponsored by Fox.
If you ask me, Ron Paul being excluded is a blatent sign of how special interests have taken over. We have plenty of candidates talking about change, but does any really believe that a mainstream candidate will be capable or interested in truly overcoming special interests to enact change? What will it take before this country actually returns the balance between government and enterprise which the founding fathers tried so hard to foster? Some people tell me that this time it is different because all the candidates are talking about change. Well I don't believe it. I think politicians will say whatever they need to say to get elected. Change is a bi-product of a new President and the government that forms around him. Someone who truly wants to create change must really talk about reform. Not only do they need to talk of reform, but what reform they specifically plan to enact. Our volatile economy and global standing will remain as such until we can prove to ourselves that Americans not only have choice, but are willing to act. Until then, we will continue to export less of our culture, import more, and further push the ideals of this country into the history books.
