Christmas 2007 was different for me for a few reasons. The entire month of December brought out mixed feelings of joy, sadness, excitement, and loneliness. I guess the holiday season brings out a lot of emotions for most people, but the reason it was different for me was because this was my first Christmas without my Dad and it was also my first Christmas with my husband in our first house. For example, I always decorated the house with my Dad, so this year, instead of decorating my parent’s artificial tree with my Dad, I decorated the same tree with my husband. I also always listened to Christmas music, Neil Diamond, and Simon & Garfunkel with my Dad around the holiday season & this year it has been more quiet, so I guess that means I should start listening to it now because I really do miss that! It is amazing the little things that you take for granted.
Anyway, we invited my family over on Christmas Day since we spent Christmas Eve with my husband's family. Since I am the baby of 8 and have 21 nieces and nephews, and this was our first time hosting a X-Mas party, we decided to not overwhelm ourselves so we only had 11 for dinner and 15 for dessert. If it were the entire family it would be about 35!!!! Everything turned out great thanks to everyone for bringing delicious food and a smile on their face! I have to especially thank my husband for helping me clean & decorate & for being in charge of the ham! Everyone seemed to enjoy the dinner and have fun in the game room playing pool and ping-pong! We even celebrated my brother Mike's b-day because his birthday is on December 24th. The whole family chipped in and bought him new golf clubs, thanks to Jack for picking them out!
Overall, I enjoyed having my family over on Christmas Day and even though I really missed my Dad and my Mom, I felt like they were with me and all of us in spirit. Mostly, I am thankful for everyone who is in my life now sharing his or her traditions, love, laughter, insight, and fun!
My husband captured our Christmas party with some video and pictures. Please check them out and I hope you enjoy!
